January 9 2012 - Forgotten DC-7
EC-BBT at El Berriel, Gran Canaria

When you drive towards Playa del ingles from the main airport at Gran canaria you will notice a once proud Douglas DC-7 parked up for good on a small airfield called El Berriel.

For many years this bird has been parked just outside the small field and while parked up, the aircraft has been painted in a number of different color schemes of companies trying to marketing themselves to the never ending flow of tourists passing the site. In the bottom of this text you will find links to photos of the aircraft in these liveries.

According to the book Svenska vingar 5 written by Ake Hall, the aircraft carries the registration EC-BBT and is a Douglas DC-7C. The final operator was the spanish charter operator Spantax, altough the aircraft has seen some other operators before being handed over to Spantax.
Built in 1958 it was delivered to Swissair (see link to photo in Swissair colors below) and named Schwyz . After a couple of years she was sold to SAS to become Erik Viking and SE-CCH. However, CCH never operated any SAS flights as she was traded over to Japan Airlines against a DC-7 converted to carry freight. The aircraft became City of Hong Kong and got the registration JA-6306 in 1962. In 1965 the aircraft got its final registration as EC-BBT and has since 1976 been parked up at Gran Canaria. Definently a sad end to such a beautiful aircraft.

January 7 2012 - Snapshot - Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria

During winter Gran Canaria becomes a major holiday destination. The busiest travel day is Saturday with a huge number of flights bringing tourists to and from the island. Together with carriers from the UK and Germany, Scandinavian Charter carriers dominate the scene at LPA. Apart from the charter carriers, other airlines common at the airport includes Iberia, Vueling, Ryanair and the inter island airlines Binter Canarias and Islas Airways.

During my stay at the island I took the opportunity to shoot some of the movements as I was waiting for my flight bound for Gothenburg, operated by the TUIfly Nordic B737-804 SE-DZV.

A Niki A319 arrives at the gate

Thomas Cook Scandinavia operates a number of A320s and A330s, both types could be seen during the hour I spent on the viewing deck (smoking area)

This Primera 737 operated a flight to Gothenburg with a departure time just five minutes ahead of my flight, visible in the background is a 757 belonging to Finnair.

Just after reaching the mainland of Europe, the sun started to set and soon we reached a cold and dark Landvetter

November 16 2011 - Junaviation online again!
Welcome back!

Finally Junaviation.com is online again after a few months of heavy maintenance.
This site has been built by myself from scratch which means it could have some issues that I haven't found, if something looks strange or isn't working, please contact me!
With that said I hope you will enjoy your visit!

The new Junaviation

The main purpose of Junaviation.com is, as with the previous versions, to show you my aviation photographs.
My older versions never 'grew up' which meant that there wasn't that many photos to see, something I think originated from the fact that I used very basic code which made any single change or update a lengthy task.
The new site on the other hand uses CSS which enables me to make the code as easy as possible which I hope will lead to much more updates and more photos.

I hope you will enjoy the website, if you have any comments or questions, please dont hesitate to contact me!
